.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...A surface trough currently
northeast of American Samoa will move southwest and pass over the
territory tonight through Friday night. This feature will bring
numerous showers during that time. At the same time, an area of
high pressure will remain near New Zealand. The high and the
surface trough will produce moderate easterly winds for us through
Friday night.

.Long term...
SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...During the long term, the
aforementioned surface trough will move away to the southeast.
However, the high near New Zealand will move to the northeast,
pushing the South Pacific Convergence Zone (SPCZ) closer to
American Samoa. Thus, numerous showers are expected through
Mother`s Day weekend along with strong southeast winds. A wind
advisory may be needed this weekend.

The latest models show the SPCZ making its closest pass to
American Samoa on Monday, resulting in frequent showers. There is
the potential for heavy rain with these showers. The exact timing
and strength of the heavy rainfall may change, though, since this
is still a long-term forecast. The threat of showers is forecast to
decrease to scattered for Tuesday and Wednesday as the high to the
south weakens. Winds are also expected to diminish somewhat during
this time, but will remain moderate to fresh.

&&

.Marine...Seas will remain below advisory criteria through Friday
night, with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet expected. Seas are
expected to build above advisory criteria this weekend through
early next week due to strong wind-driven seas.
