Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX

...New SHORT TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 310 AM CDT Thu May 6 2021

Weather conditions today will be nearly carbon-copy to yesterday.
Although surface high pressure has pushed off to the east, easterly
to southeasterly winds will remain fairly light across West Central
Texas. Temperatures aloft will be a couple degrees warmer than they
were yesterday as a ridge of high pressure will slowly start to
build in from northern Mexico. Nevertheless, much of the state will
remain under dry, northwest flow today, resulting in sunny skies.
Given the slightly warmer airmass, high temperatures this afternoon
should be about 2-5 degrees warmer than yesterday, or generally in
the low to mid 80s. Overnight, winds will go light again with
mostly clear skies, allowing for good radiational cooling. Again,
with the slightly warmer airmass, low temperatures should be about 5
degrees higher than this morning.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 245 PM CDT Wed May 5 2021

Dry conditions continue into Saturday with zonal flow aloft.
Sunday a cold front will move through, but the only chance of
showers and thunderstorm will be late Sunday afternoon/evening
from Mason...Brady and Brownwood and eastward where deeper
moisture will be present.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms returns Monday afternoon
into Thursday as a large wave upper trough develops across the
Rocky Mountains into New Mexico, with warm moist air overrunning
the colder air at the surface. There is some additional
uncertainty on how far the upper trough/upper low over the Rocky
mountains will dig south at this time. Give the time of year and
instability, however, there could be some severe storms. Cooler
next week with highs in the 70s and 80s.
