...Drought Conditions Continue to Expand in September...

SYNOPSIS...

.SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...

Most of September was dry across the area, but heavy rain did fall
at the end of the month for areas along and east of Highway 25.
Western areas, however, remained much below normal for the month.
Goodland, for example, only saw 0.22 inches in September. Even in
areas that saw above normal rainfall, it was not enough to
overcome mounting deficits over the past several months. As a
result, compared to August, drought conditions worsened across
much of the area. The D2, severe drought, area expanded further
south into Thomas and parts of Sherman counties in northwest
Kansas. Drought also began to develop in parts of northeast
Colorado, particularly Yuma County.

The latest drought monitor was issued on September 30, 2021.
