Weeks, Relatively Small Areas of Deterioration

.SYNOPSIS:

.Drought intensity and extent:

D3 - Extreme Drought category - thankfully remains outside of the
area.

D2 - Severe Drought category - is limited to parts of Knox
County.

Much of the central portions of the CWA remain drought free.

.Hydrologic conditions:

Streamflow remains generally close to normal for most of Nebraska
and western Iowa. The Nishnabotna River in southwest Iowa,
however, is below the 25th percentile of average stream flow for
mid to late September.

.SUMMARY OF IMPACTS:

We`ve received reports of low water levels in creeks and ponds
for livestock use. The Iowa DNR has advised canoers of low water
levels in western Iowa.

.DROUGHT MITIGATION ACTIONS:

Audubon, IA announced its water emergency was extended through
the month of September.

.LOCAL DROUGHT OUTLOOK:

The forecast remains mostly dry until the mid-section of next
week. Best chances of significant precipitation over
the next 7 days will be just west of this CWA. The CPC
precipitation outlook suggests nearly equal chances of above
average and below average precipitation through the first week of
October.
