AUGUST WAS DRIER AND MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL IN THE MANCHESTER AREA.
EARLY IN THE MONTH A BROAD RIDGE STARTED TO DEVELOP IN THE MID
LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE ACROSS THE CENTRAL PART OF THE CONUS. BY
THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST, THIS RIDGE EXPANDED AND SHIFTED
EAST WITH THE CENTER OF THE RIDGE MOVING OVER NEW ENGLAND. THIS
RIDGE BROUGHT EIGHT DAYS IN A ROW WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AT OR ABOVE
90 DEGREES FROM THE 2ND TO THE 9TH WITH THE HOTTEST DAYS OCCURRING
ON 4TH AND 8TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED 99 DEGREES. ALSO
DURING THIS PERIOD, THE LOW TEMPERATURE DID NOT DROP BELOW 70
DEGREES FOR FOUR STRAIGHT NIGHTS FROM THE 5TH TO THE 8TH. A COLD
FRONT THEN CROSSED NEW ENGLAND THE NIGHT OF THE AUGUST 9TH, WHICH
BROUGHT MUCH COOLER AIR WITH TEMPERATURES THEN RUNNING SLIGHTLY
BELOW NORMAL THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH. A RIDGE STARTED TO
BUILD OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC DURING THE THIRD WEEK OF THE MONTH
THAT ALLOWED FOR WARMER AND MORE HUMID CONDITIONS THAT GENERALLY
PERSISTED THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH. MUCH OF THE RAINFALL THAT
DID OCCUR DURING THE MONTH CAME FROM PASSING FRONTAL SYSTEMS THAT
BROUGHT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 76.5, WHICH WAS 4.3
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE WARMEST ON RECORD. THE SECOND WARMEST
AUGUST ON RECORD WAS IN 2021 AND 2018 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
WAS 75.4 DEGREES. THE COOLEST WAS 61.1 DEGREES IN 1929.

A TOTAL OF 1.67 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL, WHICH WAS 1.68 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS 0.12 INCHES IN 1931.
THE WETTEST WAS 7.23 INCHES IN 2011. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL
ON THE 31ST WHEN 0.86 INCHES WERE MEASURED.

HISTORICAL RECORDS AT MANCHESTER BEGAN IN 1885, BUT WITHIN THIS
RECORD THERE REMAIN NUMEROUS YEARS OF UNAVAILABLE DATA. DUE TO THIS,
HISTORICAL RECORDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AS SOME
SIGNIFICANT EXTREMES MAY BE MISSING FROM THE DATA. MORE CONSISTENT
MODERN RECORDS BEGAN IN 1998 AND CONTINUE TO THE PRESENT.
