...MODERATE DROUGHT LINGERS FOR KAPINGAMARANGI...

.SYNOPSIS:
La Nina continues with cooler than normal sea surface temperatures
along the equatorial Pacific and large-scale convection anchored across
the Maritime Continent (Indonesia and South East Asia). La Nina is
expected to continue through the end of the year.

The La Nina setup will maintain a sharp rainfall gradient near
Kapingamarangi the next several months with showery weather to the
north and drier conditions in the vicinity of Kapinga. Some months are
likely to see fairly dry weather with monthly rainfall around 4 to 6
inches while other months see a bit more rain. Overall, rainfall will
be well below normal and moderate drought is expected to persist.

Preliminary rainfall (inches) for select islands across Pohnpei
State. % of monthly normal rainfall based on 1991-2020 data.
