Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Albany NY
1045 AM EDT Sun Oct 1 2023

...THE GROWING SEASON HAS ENDED FOR THE SOUTHERN ADIRONDACKS...

The end of the seasonal frost/freeze program is determined by the
75th percentile for a Fall Freeze, which is roughly 10 days beyond
the climatological median first Fall Freeze date, based on 30-year
temperature averages. For the southern Adirondacks, that date is
October 1.

During the defined growing season, NWS Albany issues frost and
freeze headlines as needed. Once the end date of the
climatologically defined growing season is reached, frost and
freeze headlines will no longer be issued for that climatological
area.

The growing season has ended in the following zones:
In New York...
Northern Herkimer
Hamilton
Northern Fulton
Northern Warren

The National Weather Service in Albany will no longer issue FREEZE
WARNINGS or FROST ADVISORIES for these zones this year.

Persons are strongly urged to follow local forecasts and take
preventative actions from a frost or freeze when low temperatures
are forecast to be in the mid-30s or colder.

Frost and freeze products will resume for these zones in Spring
2024.
