...Changes to River Forecast Services for the Cedar River at
Waterloo...

Subject:  Changes River Forecast Services for the Cedar River at
          Waterloo, IA (ALOI4), effective at 1200 PM CST on
          November 1,.2023


Per coordination with local officials, the NWS in Des Moines will
change river forecast services for ALOI4, effective at the date
and time mentioned above. Daily warm season river forecasts will
no longer be provided. The warm season runs from April 1 through
September 30. River forecasts will be provided, however, when the
observed or forecast stages go above the Forecast Issuance Stage,
also known as the Action Stage.

As has been the case for ALOI4, river forecasts and flood warnings
will continue to be valid along the reach of the Cedar River
extending from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls city limits to Spring
Creek near La Porte City.

The Cedar River at Waterloo is a real-time U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) streamgage which provides stage data. This streamgage has a
period of record back to 1941. It is maintained by the USGS Field
Office in Fort Dodge and is funded by both the USGS and the City
of Waterloo.


...Concluding Remarks...

As with other NWS river forecast points, the NWS will provide
river forecasts when the observed or forecast stages go above the
Forecast Issuance Stage, also known as the Action Stage. In
addition, the NWS will issue river Flood Warnings and follow-up
river Flood Statements when the observed or forecast stages go
above the Flood Stage.

Also, river forecasts for the above location will be available on
the NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) Website. In
addition, river forecasts for this location will be updated as
needed while the stream remains at or above the Forecast Issuance
Stage in the evening during the warm season, and during both the
morning and evening in the cold season.
