...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1986, remnants of Hurricane Paine proved to be a royal
pain to the residents of Oklahoma and Southeast Kansas,
where many areas were inundated with 6 to 14 inches of
rain. The heaviest rains overwhelmed part of Kay County
Oklahoma, where as much as a mind-boggling 21.79 INCHES
were measured. The heavy rains that occurred between
September 26th and October 4th, resulted in $350 million
damage in Oklahoma. In 1969, Denver measured 9.8 inches
of snow. The 31.2 inch total for the month would make
1969 the snowiest October on record for the Mile High
City. It would also be Denver`s coldest October on
record with an average monthly temperature of 38.9
degrees, exactly 4 degrees colder than the 2nd place
occupant, 2009.

the longest dry spell in United States history began in
Bagdad, CA. They went without rain for just a shade over
2 years, 767 days to be exact. In 1841, it proved to be
a very bad day for fishing and sailing off Cape Cod, as
the Cape Cod fishing fleet was caught in the worst gale
on record ever to strike Nantucket, MA. Forty ships were
driven ashore at Cape Cod where 57 sailors perished.
